Former JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar is set to contest on a CPI ticket from Begusarai constituency for the coming Lok Sabha election.

The Communist Party of India (CPI) Bihar secretary Satyanarayan Singh said the decision was taken by the party's executive community in a meeting Sunday. Kanhaiya is expected to be the joint candidate of Left parties from the seat.

In Bihar, the opposition 'Mahagathbandhan' today announced its seat-sharing formula for the 40 Lok Sabha seats in the state, half of which will be fought by Lalu Prasad's RJD and nine by the Congress.

Former JD(U) president and NDA convener Sharad Yadav will contest on the RJD symbol and merge his party Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) with it after the Lok Sabha polls, RJD national spokesman Manoj Jha and RJD state president Ram Chandra Purve told newsmen.

RJD sources believe Kanhaiya Kumar has fewer chances of standing up to the BJP's candidate Giriraj Singh, a Union Minister known for his controversial pronouncements.
