Kulgam Encounter: Security Forces Kill ‘IED Expert’ Zeenat Ul Islam & One Other

Two terrorists were killed in an operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam area on Saturday night in a fierce encounter with security forces. The militants have been identified as Zeenat-ul-Islam and Shakeel Ahmed Dar, news agency ANI reported.

The two belong to the militants of the Al Badr extremist group. Zeenat Ul Islam has a long history of terror crimes, and became the head of the Al-Badr outfit recently, according to the official reports.

Zeenat ul Islam, 29, alias Alqama, was a resident of Sugan Zanipura in Shopian. He joined militancy on 17 Nov 2015, before that he was an OGW, police informed.

According to media reports, Zeenat Ul Islam was a professional at handling Improvised explosive device (IED).

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Katpora area in south Kashmir's Kulgam district on Saturday evening after receiving specific information about the presence of terrorists there, a police official said.

As per media reports, Intense clashes erupted at the site of the encounter. Youths pelted security personnel with stones, and the forces responded by using tear gas, which led to further clashes. Internet services have been suspended in Anantnag and Kulgam districts following the encounter.
