More than one lakh farmers started a mega protest march from Brijwasan on the outskirts of Delhi to towards Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on Thursday, November 29 to demand redressal of issues related to agrarian distress.

The two-day 'Kisan Mukti March' has been organized by the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC). The march is the second major farmer’s protest in the national Capital in two months.

On October 2, at least 20 people — including police personnel — were injured in a clash between protesters and security personnel at the Delhi-UP gate border on NH-24 when the Delhi police denied entry to thousands of farmers into the city.

According to media reports, Vijoo Krishnan, joint secretary of the All India Kisan Sabha(one of the AIKSCC-affiliated bodies) said that the farmers will release a charter of demands on after assembling at Parliament Street.

Apart from increased minimum support prices (MSP) and a one-time unconditional loan waiver, this time the farmers are also demanding a special session of parliament dedicated to discussion around the agrarian distress.

The coalition is also demanding that parliament pass two bills prepared by the AIKSCC – the freedom from indebtedness bill and a bill to guarantee remunerative MSP.

Swaraj Abhiyan leader, Yogendra Yadav, is leading the march in Delhi. He took to his twitter account and wrote, "Women farmers greet us this morning from Brijwasan as they are all set to embark on Kisan Mukti March. Join us even if you are not a farmer. Join the hands that toil to feed us."

Over 1,000 policemen are deployed in the city to ensure security. Apart from the security arrangements made by the police, volunteers in Delhi will be at hand to provide the farmers with food, water and medical assistance.

Overnight camps have been set up at several locations, for the farmers to be able to rest.
