Odisha Shocker: Kins Carry Pregnant Women 16 Km To Reach Hospital As Ambulance Inoperable

In a heart aching incident of Odisha’s lack of healthcare services, a pregnant woman in labour was carried on a wooden stretcher for 16 km to get reach a hospital in Kalahandi district, reported ANI.

The incident took place in Kansabundel village in Trilochanpur under Lanjigarh block when an ambulance carrying the pregnant woman had to stop due to a fallen tree blocking the road. The woman was then carried on a bamboo stick for 16 km by her relatives.

The news agency ANI reported, “Lanjigarh (Odisha): Relatives carried a pregnant woman with the help of bamboo stick for 16 km to reach an ambulance, due to a blocked road.”

Sources tell that the woman was writhing in labour pain when the 102 ambulance taking her to the hospital stopped mid-way due to a fallen tree blocking the road.

Braja Kishore Brahma, CDMO Kalahandi said, “We had arranged for all facilities but due to extremely poor connectivity to the remote areas we have been unable to reach out to them.”Earlier as well, a similar incident was reported from the village after an ambulance failure.
