11 Killed, 20 Injured In 4-Vehicle Crash In Telangana's Siddipet

At least 11 people have been killed, including 4 women and 2 children, and 20 others injured in a major road accident involving 4 vehicles including a TSRTC bus on Saturday evening near Pragnapur in Siddipet district of Telangana.

According to the police, the accident took place when the driver of a TSRTC airconditioned Rajdhani bus travelling from Secunderabad to Mancheryal lost control over the wheel and hit a lorry from behind. Due to the impact of the collision, the bus turned on its side, killing 4 passengers instantly.

The lorry fell over the road divider and hit an SUV and container lorry coming in the opposite lane. The SUV was caught between the two lorries and suffered massive damage, with 7 of the SUV occupants dying on the spot. The deceased include 5 family members of journalist Lakshman, resident of Jinnaram village of Sangareddy district who had been returning home from a pilgrimage to Vemulawada.

Later reports said that the driver of the TSRTC bus had been attempting to overtake the lorry from the left side when he lost control of the wheel, resulting in the collision of the bus with the lorry that subsequently fell over the road divider.

Senior police and revenue officials rushed to the spot to supervise rescue and relief operations and a crane was brought in to shift the damaged vehicles. Traffic on the busy Hyderabad-Karimnagar Rajiv Rahadari where the accident took place came to a standstill for nearly 2 hours.

Telangana Chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao expressed shock over the “terrible road accident”, instructed officials to provide better medical treatment to the injured and conveyed condolences to the bereaved families.
