After Amarnath Yatra Attack, Kanwariya Pilgrims Get Drone, Helicopter, CCTV Security Surveillance

Following the attack on Amarnath Yatra Pilgrims, the Ghaziabad police have increased surveillance and security for the Kanwariya pilgrims, who journey by foot to Haridwar and back, bringing Ganga water with them. Drones and helicopters would be used for aerial surveillance while CCTV cameras will monitor the progress on road.

Adding to the 37 CCTV cameras already on the route, 30 more have been added, installed at strategic points on the route taken by the pilgrims, Superintendent of Police (City) Akash Tomar said.

The new ones have been installed at Meerut tri-junction on National Highway-58, Mohan Nagar, Karan Gate, Vasundhara area, Bikaner area, Dabur Tiraha, UP Gate, Kala Pathhar on National Highway-24, Lalkuan, Atma steel area, Diamond Flyover, Collectorate, and Dudheswar Nath temple and other places.

A separate passage to be used by the pilgrims has also been set up and the National Highway-24 will remain closed for heavy traffic from July 15 to 22.

The terrorist attack on the Amarnath Yatra pilgrims which took place on July 10 and led to the death of 7 people shook the nation. Since the security forces had received intelligence of a possible attack on the Amarnath Yatra, security preparations were thorough yet still fatalities occurred. However, the terrorist attack could not dampen the spirits of those setting out on the yatra, and the pilgrimage to the Amarnath shrine resumed from the same day itself.
