Justice Dipak Mishra was on Tuesday appointed as the next Chief Justice of India by the Union Cabinet.
Mishra will be replacing Justice J S Khehar, who will retire on August 27. Khehar had recommended Mishra's name to be his successor.
Justice Mishra will be sworn in as the 45th Chief Justice of India by President Ram Nath Kovind on November 27.
The 63-year-old CJI-designate is the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court after Justice Khehar.
