Rumour of a rift in ‘mahagathbandhan’ takes over Bihar’s politics as Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav misses attending a skill development event in the state capital despite Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s invitation.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish on Saturday attended a Vishwa Yuva Kaushal Divas in Patna. The Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav, despite getting an invitation, missed attending the event. After his nonattendance, his nameplate on the dais was first covered with a nameplate and was later removed.

News Agency ANI in a tweet reported, "Patna: Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav's name plate covered, later removed, in an event to be attended by CM Nitish Kumar."

JD(U) chief spokesman Sanjay Singh said, “The RJD, which is showing arrogance of 80 MLAs, should not forget that it was reduced to 22 MLAs in the 2010 state polls and in the election in 2015, their number swelled due to the credible face of Nitish Kumar as the head of the coalition.”

The JD(U) has 71 MLAs and Congress 27 while the opposition BJP has 53 MLAs in the House.

Earlier Nitish Kumar had rammed Tejashwi to come clean to the public with ‘fact-wise’ replies to the corruption allegations on him.

RJD has already ruled out Tejashwi’s resignation from the Deputy Chief Minister’s post. Lalu Yadav had said, “Tejashwi will not resign. There is no question of his resignation.” He added, “Mahagathbandhan (ruling Grand Alliance) is intact in Bihar and he and his party will not do anything which can give any space to the Rashtriya Swyamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to step into Bihar."

BJP leader Nitin Naveen, however, has said that there is no question of supporting Tejashwi. We (the BJP) are waiting for Nitish Kumar’s decision.

He further added, “Nitish has to decide if he wants power or stance. He can have one, not both. Either he sticks with Tejashwi and stays in power or he can stick to his no-corruption stance and lose the government.”
