J&K: 2 Jawans Martyred, 3 Terrorists Killed In Shopian, 3 Security Personnel Injured In Bandipora

Security forces face difficulties in Jammu and Kashmir as confrontations with militants erupt in Shopian and Bandipora district of the state.

A total of 3 terrorists and two Army jawans have been killed and three others injured with during an encounter with terrorists in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir after the area was cordoned off on receiving intelligence of terrorists in the area. The injured include an Army captain.

After receiving intelligence that a group of 2-3 militants was hiding in the Awneera village in Shopian district, security forces, state police and the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) surrounded the area on Saturday evening and were fired upon by the hiding militants, resulting in a gunfight.

On Saturday, one army soldier was killed and 4 others injured who were taken to the army's base hospital in Badami Bagh area of Srinagar city. "One of the injured soldiers succumbed in the hospital today", police said, raising the death toll to 2 soldiers.

According to sources, 2 militants have been killed in the gunfight, however, there has been no official confirmation of militant casualties.

In Bandipora's Hajin area two policemen and an army man were injured after militants attacked them during a cordon and search operation on Sunday. The Kochak Mohalla area in Hajin had been cordoned off by the Army and police after inputs about the presence of 3 militants in the area.
