6 Jawans Killed, 1 Injured In IED Explosion In Chhattisgarh's Dantewada

A total of 6 Chhattisgarh jawans were killed and 1 grievously injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast on a police vehicle in the Cholnar village of Dantewada on Sunday. The vehicle had been carrying jawans from the Chhattisgarh Armed Force and the Chhattisgarh Police's District Force when the blast took place.

According to reports, an SUV carrying 7 security personnel had been on their way from Cholnar to Kirandul when the explosive blasted near their vehicle. While 5 were killed on the spot, the 2 injured were taken to a nearby medical facility as CRPF rushed in with reinforcement. From the injured, 1 succumbed to injuries.

Sunder Raj P, DIG Anti-Naxal Operation on Dantewada attack confirmed the death toll, but said tat the exact details would become clear after the investigation.

"6 jawans dead, 1 injured according to preliminary investigation. Search operation is being held by security forces. Blast could be of high intensity, but the exact details will come after the investigation," said Sunder Raj P.

Earlier in May, 2 jawans of the district force were killed in an IED blast in the Gariaband district. In April, A Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) jawan was injured in an IED blast in the Dantewada district. Similar attacks on March 25 in the Sukma district resulted in the injury of 4 district reserve guard jawans, while on March 13 a total of 9 CRPF jawans were killed in an IED blast.
