Jawan Shoots Dead Army Major For Protesting On Mobile Phone Use

In another loss for the Army, an army major was shot dead on Monday night allegedly by a jawan over a dispute on the jawan using his mobile phone while on duty at a post near the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the police, Major Shikhar Thapa of 8 Rashtriya Rifles, posted at Buchar post in Uri sector, was shot multiple times by Naik Kathiresan G when the major berated the Naik for using his mobile phone during duty in a sensitive area.

When the mobile phone was snatched from him, the jawan allegedly shot Major Thapa 5 times, killing him instantly.

The late Major Thapa belonging to the 71 Armoured Regiment was attached to 8 Rashtriya Rifles, the army's elite counter-insurgency unit posted in Uri.

The army has been suffering from several losses as ceasefire violations at the LoC are at their peak and frequent infiltration attempts are also made by militants.
