Janakpuri West- Kalkaji Mandir Stretch Of Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line To Open On May 29

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Monday announced that the remaining portion of its Magenta Line i.e Janakpuri West to Kalkaji Mandir section will be inaugurated on May 28th and will be open to the public on May 29th. The Botanical Garden – Kalkaji Mandir section has been operational since December 2017.

“The 25.6km long Janakpuri West-Kalkaji Mandir metro corridor will be formally flagged off by Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on May 28 from the Nehru Enclave metro station,” a statement from DMRC reads.

“The dignitaries will flag off the inaugural train from Nehru Enclave and then travel to Hauz Khas. Passenger services on the stretch will begin from the next day,” the statement added.

This section with 16 stations is the longest one to be opened in Delhi Metro’s Phase 3. In total Magenta Line will operate between 25 stations from Janakpuri West to Botanical Gardens in Noida. There are 15 underground stations and 10 elevated stations in the Magenta line.

Janakpuri West, Hauz Khas, Kalkaji Mandir and Botanical Garden stations will also serve as interchange stations. While Hauz Khas will serve as the interchange station for Yellow Line, Kalkaji Mandir will serve as the interchange for Violet Line. Janakpuri West and Botanical Gardens both serve as interchange stations for the Blue line that connects Noida City Centre to Dwarka Sector 21.

Magenta Line will also connect the domestic terminal (terminal 1) of the Delhi Airport to Delhi Metro. It will also reduce the travel time from Gurgaon to Noida to fifty minutes.
