IT Raids Recover Rs 5 Crore From DK Shivakumar, Responsible For Security Of Gujarat MLAs

Income tax department carried out raids on Karnataka Energy Minister DK Shivakumar and at the Eagleton Gold Resort in Bengaluru on Wednesday where the Congress had sent its lawmakers from Gujarat in the wake of several defections from the party ahead of Gujarat Rajya Sabha elections.

During the raids, Rs 5 crore was recovered from the Delhi residence of Minister DK Shivakumar, IT officials stated.

According to reports, income tax officials searched the two homes of Shivakumar as well as rooms at the Eagleton Golf Resort where 42 Gujarat Congress MLAs have been lodged since last week. The resort was searched by a team of 10 tax officials along with personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

The lodging of the Gujarat Congress MLAs in the Bengaluru resort has fallen into controversy. While he Congress initially stated that the lawmakers were flown out to the resort on Friday to prevent 'poaching' by BJP after 7 of their MLAs left the Congress, later on, a Congress leader said that the MLAs 'feared for their life' which is why they left for the resort.

Karnataka Energy Minister Shivakumar had been given charge of the lawmakers who were brought to the Bengaluru resort.
