Indian Railways Puts Rumours To Rest, Denies Any New Changes Or Facilities From July 1

In the wake of increasing rumours on social media platforms and selected websites regarding policy changes and new facilities, the Indian Railways has issued an official clarification to dispel confusion amongst the public.

"It has been noticed that a news item is in circulation on various social media platforms, WhatsApp groups, and some websites which mentions that Indian Railways is introducing several changes and new facilities with effect from 1st July 2017," the Railways said in a statement.

"This news is totally incorrect and baseless and has created a lot of confusion in the minds of the rail users," the statement continued.

Accordingly, the railways issued a clarification on the following areas:

Tatkal Bookings

The booking timings for Tatkal tickets remains unchanged since 2015 and as earlier travellers can book AC class tickets from 10 AM and Non-AC class tickets from 11 AM one day before the date of journey.

There is also no change in the refund rules for Tatkal tickets and as per current rule, no refund is given on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal tickets.

Wait Listed Tickets

The Railways sells wait-listed tickets through online and offline modes, by e-ticket bookings online and Passenger Reservation System (PRS) offline counters. There is no change in the process and wait-listed tickets will continue to be sold online and offline.

Suvidha Trains

Since July 2015, the Railways has been running 'Suvidha' class of premium trains which will continue to be run. Wait-listed tickets are available if required and provision of partial refund of tickets is also available.

Paper Tickets

There is no plan of discontinuing paper tickets for any class of train including the Shatabdi and Rajdhani trains. For passengers booking tickets online, the tickets received via SMS on successful booking is valid for travel along with identity proofs.

Aadhaar Cards

There is no proposal as such to make Aadhaar identification cards mandatory for availing concessions on train tickets.

Duplicate Trains

There is no proposal to run duplicate trains as special trains are already plied during rush hours and peak seasons on popular routes as per traffic requirement and operational feasibility.
