Chinese Market In Danger! India Imposes Anti-Dumping Duty On Tempered Glass

Indian Finance Ministry is taking huge steps towards protecting domestic industry from Chinese products. Another step was recently taken in the direction by imposing a definitive anti-dumping duty on 'tempered glass' imports from China.

Textured toughened or tempered glass is used to protect mobile screens and is also called solar glass.

As per the recommendation from designated authorities, the Revenue Department has imposed anti-dumping duty ranging from $52.85 to 136.21 per tonne on tempered glass imports.

Findings from Directorate General of Anti-Dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD) states that the tempered glass from China has been exported to India on the price which is below its normal rate.

The domestic industry of tempered glass has been suffering losses due to Chinese imports. The notification said, "The anti-dumping duty imposed shall be effective for a period of five years from the date of publication of this notification."

India's imports from China has marginally dipped from $61.7 billion to $61.28 in 2016-17.
