The sudden resignation of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar from the Grand Alliance formed with RJD and Congress turned the tide of politics in Bihar. His former RJD ally Lalu Prasad Yadav on Tuesday lashed out against Nitish, calling him a 'political turncoat' for switching alliances and claimed that he did not want to make Nitish a ministerial candidate and did so on the insistence of Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav.

"I didn't want to make this man (Nitish) a ministerial candidate as I did not trust him in the least. Then Mulayam ji convinced me otherwise," said Lalu at the press conference.

"Nitish is a 'paltu-ram'. He is a political turncoat. I've lost count of the number of times he has changed his stance and his allegiance for the sake of power," said Lalu.

Lalu gave an example Nitish's altered attitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with whom Nitish had a major falling out with in 2013.

"Nitish would thoroughly criticize Narendra Modi till only a few days back. Now, he is showering praises and has even proclaimed that no one can challenge Modi in 2019. It's obvious that his loyalty was suspect from the very beginning," Lalu said.

Lalu continued his rant against Nitish, saying "Nitish said he got the votes for me. He didn't even feel ashamed at saying this. I'm his senior."

The RJD supremo pointed out that he had been the one to bring Nitish to the fore when he had been involved in student politics, and that Nitish then used him for political gains.
