Cops Watch Your Step! Hyderabad Politician Teaches Policemen To Follow Traffic Rules

An often witnessed trend in India is that policemen frequently consider themselves above the rules while issuing challans to erring riders is fine, they themselves will flout the rules. A politician in Hyderabad is changing all that.

Hyderabad based Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) politician Amjed Ullah Khan has launched a campaign #PracticeWhatYouPreach so that policemen will also be encouraged to follow the rules laid out for the general public.

Khan has started tweeting pictures and videos of police officers not wearing helmets, riding triples or speaking on the mobile phone, tagging Telangana DGP Anurag Sharma Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao in the process.

The campaign has received a tremendous response and other people have followed his trend by sharing their own pictures and videos of #PracticeWhatYouPreach.

“I can’t say that it’s my campaign anymore. So many people have joined in, and my WhatsApp chats are flooded. I have been sent more than 300 photos in the last few days alone,” said Khan.

“A democracy is of the people, by the people and for the people, and police officers are not exempt from this. We have just started the campaign, but we are planning to do much more,” he added.

“Just like the traffic police are worried about us, we are also worried about them. They should also be safe, and not die in accidents,” Khan said.
