Interrogated Till 3 AM, Honeypreet Insan To Be Produced in Court Today

After an extended search operation, Honeypreet Insan, a close confidante and adopted daughter of self-styled godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, was finally taken into custody by the Haryana Police on Tuesday and is to be presented in the Panchkula court on Wednesday along with her accomplice Sukhdeep Kaur.

According to sources, Honeypreet was interrogated till 3 AM on Wednesday regarding the charges against her which include rioting and sedition. 

"She was asked many questions on the Panchkula Riots, where she was after that day and the people she was in touch with," said a police officer, adding that Honeypreet was "evasive".

Soon after being taken into police custody at the Panchkula Sector 23 police station, Honeypreet complained of depression and was taken to the Panchkula Sector 6 General Hospital for a medical examination.

Honeypreet alias Priyanka Taneja had gone missing soon after former Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was convicted, resulting in violence across Haryana, Punjab and Delhi, during which nearly 40 people were killed.

Haryana Police had launched a search operation for Honeypreet, who was charged with inciting violence after Ram Rahim's conviction and for conspiring to help Ram Rahim flee from police custody.

The search operations for Honeypreet took place everywhere from the Nepal border to Delhi-NCR but was unsuccessful, till Honeypreet gave an interview to a leading media channel on Tuesday. Subsequently, on Tuesday, Haryana Police took Honeypreet and her accomplice into custody from the Zirakpur-Patiala Road.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh confirmed later on that Punjab Police did not have any role in the arrest.

“Even if we would have got access to Honeypreet, we would have handed her over to Haryana Police. She was detained near Zirakpur, which is near the Punjab-Haryana border,” said the Chief Minister.

In Honeypreet's interview, she claimed that she disappeared from public eye as she was depressed after the conviction and sentencing of her beloved 'papa', however, the authorities are likely to probe her absconding further.
