Haryanvi Singer Harshita Dahiya Shot 6 Times, Killed In Delhi

Harshita Dahiya, a Haryanvi singer who specialised in folk songs was shot dead on Tuesday as she was returning home to Delhi after a performance at a village in Haryana's Panipat, around 86 km away.

The 22-year-old singer was shot 6 times in her neck and forehead and died instantly on the spot, the police said. Dahiya was on her way back to Delhi when around 4 PM, two men in a black car overtook her car and allegedly blocked it.

"A car overtook her vehicle near Chamrara village and forced it to stop," senior police officer Desh Raj said to news agencies.

The men forced the driver, Dahiya, and Dahiya's two companions, including another singer to step out of the car. The men fired seven times and then escaped, leaving her dead.

A case of murder has been filed. Initial reports suggest that the murderer was known to the singer.

Dahiya resided in Narela in Delhi and had filed a complaint of rape against her brother-in-law who is now in jail. She was also a witness in the murder case of her mother, who had been killed a few months back.

Recently, Harshita Dahiya had posted a video on social media alleging that she was receiving death threats, but that she was not afraid.

Known for her Haryanvi 'Ragini' songs, Dahiya was also a dancer.
