Haryana High Court Slams CM Khattar, Says You Let Panchkula Burn

A day after violence consumed Haryana and parts of Punjab after the CBI court held godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh guilty in a 15-year-old rape case, the Punjab and Haryana High Court slammed the state government over poor security measures.

The High Court on Saturday said that it seems like the Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar's administration allowed the situation to deteriorate. The government let the city to burn for political reasons, added the high court.

The court also asked the state government for details of convict Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh's movable and immovable properties in Punjab and Haryana till the next hearing on August 29.

Earlier, a special CBI Court held spiritual leader Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh guilty in a rape case against him that alleged that the Dera Chief sexually assaulted two of his women followers at Dera Sacha Sauda headquarter in Haryana's Sirsa.

In an attack on the Khattar government, opposition Congress spokesperson Sachin Pilot, in conversation with a media outlet said that the administration had a week to prepare, yet there were rampage and rioting which even spread to other states.

The buck stops at the Chief Minister and he should have the moral courage to own up to it, he added.

In a press briefing, the state DGP said that the situation is peaceful and curfew has been lifted in 3 districts while it has been relaxed in others. The state will remain on alert for the next 48 hrs.
