Gurugram Building Collapse: 8 Stuck Under Rubble In Ullawas, Rescue Underway

A building, where new floors were being added on old structure, collapsed on Thursday early morning at Ullawas village near Sector 62 Gurugram.

Police said that  Eight people are trapped in debris after a four-storey building collapsed. A rescue operation is going on.

A bulldozer is clearing debris from the site, and personnel of the Haryana fire service with other security and emergency services personnel are trying to pinpoint the area where the people are trapped. The number of injured are yet to be ascertained.

Three National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) teams from Dwarka and Ghaziabad were rushed to the site of the collapse and have been pressed into service. 

The collapse happened at 5 am Thursday morning at Sector 65 site which is 12 km from the popular Cyber Hub area of the city. 

The rescuers involved in the operation said it's not known yet what led the building in Ullawas, 12 km from the popular Cyber Hub, to come crashing down at 5 am.

Media reported that the fourth floor was under construction. The people trapped in the debris could be labourers who were working on the fourth floor, rescuers said. They said some 20 tenants including security guards working at nearby sectors were living in the building.

Fire department officer Isham Singhs said, "Rescue teams are facing difficulty as they are removing heavy concrete, iron grills."
