Gujarat Patidar leader Hardik Patel on Thursday made claims 'with full confidence' that Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has resigned from his post, but the claims were fully rejected by CM Rupani, who alleged that Patel was spreading 'lies' and 'false rumours' for media attention.

During a visit to Rajkot on Thursday, Patel claimed that Rupani had resigned during a recent cabinet meeting after being asked to do so by his party, the BJP. Patel further said that Rupani's resignation would be accepted in 10 days.

"Rupani had resigned during the cabinet meet. I am saying this with full confidence. Rupani was asked to resign because he has failed to handle the administration properly," Hardik Patel said to PTI.

"The way Anandiben Patel was asked to resign, similarly Vijay Rupani was asked to resign in cabinet meeting yesterday. In 10 days the resignation will be accepted. I believe someone from 'Kshatriya' or 'Patidar' community will be the next CM," Patel said to ANI.

Rejecting the allegations, Rupani said there was absolutely no discussion going on in the party or government or senior leadership level about his resignation.

"Hardik is spreading blatant lies to be in media. I wonder if he is aware about the procedure that the resignation has to be handed over to the governor at Raj Bhawan, not in the cabinet meeting," the Gujarat CM said.

"I have not given any resignation and there is no question of doing so because people have given us their mandate to serve them for five years," said Rupani.

"It is possible that some people did not like the poll outcome. People know that he (Hardik) has worked as a Congress agent for many years. Thus, it is natural that he is feeling uncomfortable. Otherwise, what he has claimed is totally false," added Rupani.

Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel also rejected the claims and said, "Our chief minister has not resigned. No such development took place yesterday. These all are false and baseless rumours being spread by the BJP's opponents to stir controversies. But, we (BJP leaders) will always remain together despite such rumours."
