The second-leg of the Budget Session of Parliament 2018 witnessed a record wastage of 23 days, due to repeated protests and adjournments. As Union Minister Ananth Kumar accused the Congress party of disrupting parliamentary proceedings, former Congress party president and veteran leader Sonia Gandhi blamed the government and its allies for the parliamentary delays.

"Congress has always been sitting patiently and requesting a discussion. It's the government and its allies that have not been allowing parliament to function," Sonia Gandhi said to NDTV on Thursday.

Ananth Kumar, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, alleged in a tweet on Wednesday, "Congress's undemocratic politics has made LS & RS non functional, inspite of our willingness to discuss."

Sonia Gandhi slammed Ananth Kumar for his statements, and said "I think it's shameful that the parliamentary affairs minister can speak such lies on the floor of the house."

Ananth Kumar had announced on Wednesday that lawmakers of the NDA alliance will be foregoing their salaries and allowances for the 23 wasted days of the second-leg of the Budget Session of parliament, slamming the Opposition, and specifically Congress for the disruptions.

"Congress is not letting the house run and just into drama outside at the (Mahatma) Gandhi statue," Kumar said.

The second half of the Budget Session of Parliament witnessed protests by Andhra Pradesh lawmakers demanding Special Category Status for the state, AIADMK protests for setting up a Cauvery Water Management Board as well as protests against the absconding Nirav Modi.
