A teenage girl from Gujarat has once again vowed to hoist the Indian National Flag at the Srinagar Lal Chowk after she was barred from doing so last year citing violence in the valley.

The 14-year-old girl Tanzeem Merani, hailing from Ahmedabad, Gujarat has once again vowed to hoist the tri-colour at Lal Chowk in Srinagar on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

She says that she wants to celebrate the festival of 'Raksha Bandhan' with soldiers posted in the Kashmir valley.

Merani had also attempted to unfurl the national flag in Srinagar last year on the occasion of Independence Day on August 15, 2016. However, citing the violence in the valley she was barred from doing it.

She said, “Last time, I was stopped at the airport itself, and I had to unfurl the flag there. However, I will make sure I do it this time at Lal Chowk.”

She also threatened to start a hunger strike if she was stopped from doing so again by the Srinagar security forces or authorities.
