The Kerala government on Wednesday has announced a rehabilitation deal in which a house and lump sum payment of up to Rs. 5 lakh will be given to those who want to give up Maoist operations and are willing to surrender and reintegrate themselves into the mainstream.
The purpose of this scheme is to bring out the people from the doctrines of extremisms and re-adapt them into the society. Based on their groups, the Maoist are divided into three categories and the benefits will be given to them according to these categories only.
The A grade Maoists who are on the top of the hierarchy would be given Rs 5 lakh on surrender. Rs 15,000 would be given to those Maoists who would be willing to pursue the studies and those who want to get married would be given Rs 25,000. Maoists who wish to pursue vocational training would get Rs 10,000 for up to three months.
This package also involves that the Maoist who will surrender their AK-47 and other guns, rifles and pistols will get Rs 25,000 and Maoist activists, who come under Category 2A and 2B, would get Rs 3 lakh each and it will be given to them in installments.
The scheme was approved at the cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Moreover, He recently said in the assembly that Maoist presence had been noticed in Ma Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Palakkad and Kannur and in all northern districts of the state.
Two Maoists were killed in police encounter in Nilambur forest region of Malappuram in November 2016 after the LDF government came to power. Despite making a number of efforts police has not been able to make many inroads into their territories to break their strength so the government has announced rehabilitation package in the hope that the ultras will make use of this amnesty.
