French President Emmanuel Macron reached India for a four-day bilateral visit on Friday along with his wife Brigitte Marie-Claude Macron and his senior cabinet ministers. After receiving a ceremonial welcome in Rashtrapati Bhawan, he had bilateral talks with PM Narendra Modi.

The main purposes of his India tour are to initiate a new era of Indo-French relations in defence and security, higher education, science and research along with co-chairing a conference with PM Modi on International Solar Alliance and address the Indian youth.

After holding bilateral talks on Saturday, Macron said he aims to have more and more Indian citizens coming to France studying, becoming a partner, creating start-ups and want France to be India’s best partner in Europe whereas PM Modi welcomed all investments from France.

Following extensive talks between PM Modi and President Macron, India and France signed 14 pacts in the strategic areas of security, nuclear energy and protection of classified information including an agreement on 'reciprocal logistical support' by the armed forces of both sides.

PM Modi shared, "we have made two important agreements today, a pact to recognise each other's educational needs, and the other is our migration and mobility partnership. These two agreements will prepare the framework of closest relations between our countrymen, our youth."

After the little press conference addressed by the two leaders, Macron moved to attend the Knowledge Summit, attended by more than 200 academicians from both sides and addressed the Indian youth, who are the future of not just India but the world.

Among the many inspiring messages shared by Macron with students present at the Summit, he advised them to have the best education for better opportunities. He further suggested them of preserving the balance between your country and the global environment.

The French President is scheduled to attend the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Summit, an initiative mooted by France and India on Sunday followed by a visit to Taj Mahal. He will visit the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Modi Varanasi on March 12.
