Delhi Police Busts International Drug Racket, Seizes Heroin Worth Rs 125 Crore

In a major success, the Delhi Police busted an international drug racket arresting 4 members of a gang that operated internationally and seized Rs 125 crore worth of heroin, an official said on Tuesday.

The arrested include a Nigerian national and 2 Afghanistan nationals, DCP (Special Cell) PS Kushwah said to PTI.

"A total of 29 Kg of fine quality heroin valued at around Rs. 125 crore has been recovered from the arrested accused," Kushwah said.

"The entire network of international narco-syndicate originated from Afghanistan and terminated in Europe through Nigerian traffickers with its trail through Pakistan, J&K and Delhi as a transit point," he said.

The Special Cell of the Delhi Police had been working on information that persons from Kashmir had been visiting Delhi to supply consignments of heroin to people of Afghan origin who had migrated to India. The consignments were then further routed through Nigerian and Afghan nationals.

After receiving specific input, a special team of the police caught Srinagar resident Jehangir Ahmad in Delhi on March 26 with 11 kg of heroin. During interrogation Ahmad revealed that the heroin had been given to him by a Kashmiri and was to be delivered to Afghan national Gorbachan Singh who has been in Delhi for the past 1 year.

Subsequently, on March 29 Gorbachan was arrested from Delhi's Vikas Puri area and 1 kg of heroin was recovered from him. Another accused Afghan national Mutaj was arrested on March 31 who revealed to the police that he had directions from Pakistan and Afghanistan to receive heroin in India and deliver it further to specific people.

"He admitted supplying a huge consignment to one Nigerian on the direction of a person Azlam who is based in Pakistan. He also revealed that the heroin was manufactured in Jalalabad, Afghanistan, later shipped to Azlan, who further pushed it to J&K," Kushwah said.

The alleged receiver of the heroin identified as Nnadi was arrested from Delhi's Najafgarh and 1 kg of heroin was recovered from him on April 6 and another 15 kg of heroin was recovered from his room in Dwarka.

"He disclosed that he worked for an international syndicate operated by some Nigerian nationals for supplying the heroin from Delhi to Europe and Middle East countries," Kushwah said.
