Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat once again defied the order by Kerala government which excludes anyone other than the school heads to hoist the national flag by unfurling the tricolour in the state's Palakkad district on Friday.

To mark the 69th Republic Day, Bhagwat hoisted the national flag at the Karnakiamman Higher Secondary School despite being warned by the district administration against the act. Notably, the leader was reprimanded for same last year but the lesson was not learnt.

Bhagwat was in the state due to a three-day RSS camp. Wishing his fellow citizens, he said, "I wish every citizen of our nation a very happy Republic Day. There are different languages, cultures, traditions, customs, etc. still we are united."

The state government has issued an explicit circular on January 24 stating that the hoisting of tricolour will only be done by the heads of department offices and educational institutes. However, the order contradicts the Flag Code of India.

The then Palakkad district collector issued a memo to the Karnakiamman Higher Secondary School last year conveying that it was inappropriate for a political leader to hoist the national flag at an aided school as Bhagwat hoisted the national flag in the school on August 15.
