Chandrababu Naidu Tops List Of Richest CMs, Tripura's Manik Sarkar Poorest CM

A recent analysis of self-sworn affidavits filed by chief ministers of 29 states and 2 union territories of India conducted by transparency body Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) has shown that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is the richest CM in the country with assets worth Rs 177 crore. On the other end of the spectrum is Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar of CPI(M) with assets of Rs 26 lakh.

After CM Naidu, Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu is the second richest with assets worth Rs 129 crore, followed by Punjab CM Amarinder Singh with assets worth Rs 48 crore. Other CMs with the least financial assets are West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee with assets worth Rs 30 lakh, and Jammu and Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti with Rs 55 lakh in assets. Surprisingly, WB CM Banerjee has claimed that she has no immovable assets.

Based on the ADR report, the average asset per CM is around Rs 16 crore, with 25 of the analyzed 31 CMs being crorepatis. Around 55 percent of the CMs have assets in the range of Rs 1 crore to Rs 10 crore, while 19 percent have assets less than Rs 1 crore and 7 percent have assets worth Rs 100 crore and above.

Apart from financial assets, the ADR study also analyzed the number of cases registered against the respective CMs.

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has the highest number of cases registered against him with a total of 22 cases. After Fadnavis, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan has 11 criminal cases against him, followed by Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal with 10 cases against him. From the 31 CMs, 20 have entirely clean records while 11 have declared criminal cases and 8 have serious criminal cases.

In terms of education, 39 percent of the Chief Ministers are graduates, 16 percent are postgraduates and 32 percent are professionals. Only 10 percent have maximum studied till high school, while Sikkim CM P K Chamling is the only CM with a doctorate.
