After the police announced that they couldn't find any CCTV footage in the Chandigarh stalking case, BJP's state vice president has blamed the victim for driving so late at night.

While talking to a media outlet, BJP state vice President Ramveer Bhatti said, "The girl shouldn't have gone outside at 12'O clock at night. Why was she driving so late in the night? The atmosphere is not right. We need to take care of ourselves."

The BJP leader's statement came days after the son of Haryana's BJP President allegedly stalked the daughter of an IAS officer in Chandigarh.

In recent developments, the police has said that no CCTV footage could be found of the stalking. Notably, there were 5 CCTV cameras in the location where the woman was allegedly stalked, all of their footage are missing.

The 29-year-old daughter of top bureaucrat, had alleged that she was followed by Vikas Barala, son of Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala, and his friend Ashish Kumar in an SUV last Friday.

Opposition party, Congress has attacked the BJP and police alleging that the government is trying to cover-up the case.

Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said, “We are releasing three videos today, relating to the stalking of a girl by BJP state president Subhash Barala’s son Vikas. The cases filed by the police definitely raise a question. This is clearly a case of abduction. The Centre is trying to stall the case. It was not registered under proper sections of the IPC."

He also asked the central leadership what was stopping the Centre since the Chandigarh police comes directly under the Home Ministry.

He added, “Why is the FIR diluted? Rajnath Singh and Sushma Swaraj protested when a Congress leader's son was involved in a similar case. The word 'sexual' is totally omitted from the police report in the present case. How have the CCTV cameras stopped working? Is the BJP trying to protect its leader?"

Congress Vice President also tweeted condemning the stalking and said that the BJP government must punish the guilty, not collude with the culprits and the mindset they represent.
