As Lucknow Reports 41 New Swine Flu Cases, UP State Total Reaches 695

Swine flu continues to take its toll on Uttar Pradesh as the capital Lucknow reported 41 new cases of the disease on Sunday, taking the total of swine flu cases in Lucknow to 393, and the total in the state to 695.

On Saturday, Lucknow recorded a record of 82 positive swine flu cases within 24 hours, the highest number reported from any city in UP since January 2017. Among the victims were 13 children between the ages of 1-16 years.

"Looking at the cases every day we have strengthened our mobile awareness campaign. On Sunday, vehicles with the audio-visual material on swine flu went around Aminabad, Qaisrbagh, Hazratganj, Telibagh, areas around SGPGIMS, Alabagh, Indira Nagar, Gomti Nagar and Chowk," said Dr GS Bajpai, CMO, Lucknow district said.

The joint director of the communicable disease unit Dr. HK Agarwal said, "There are three categories of influenza patients where symptoms differ from mild to severe and it only the category C patients who need hospitalisation. The two other category A and B patients need to be isolated at home and be cautious of not spreading to infection to others."

From the total 695 swine flu cases reported in UP since January, 21 cases have resulted in fatalities. Majority of the cases and deaths were reported from Lucknow.

Swine flu appears with general influenza-like symptoms such as fever, chills, cough, dizziness, sore throat, watery eyes, body aches, abdominal pain, lack of appetite and fatigue.
