Struggle Continues In Kashmir, Army Kills 2 Militants, Loses 2 Soldiers In Another Attack

In continuous combat in the valley, the Indian army engaged into another battle with militants in the Shopian district where the security forces lost two of its soldier, including an army major.

On Thursday, an army major was killed along with another soldier during a militant attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district.

The Hizbul Mujahideen outfit claimed responsibility for the attack. Police sources said militants ambushed an army patrol in Zaipora village.

Three soldiers including Major Kamlesh Pandey, Sepoy Tanzin and Sepoy Kripal Singh were injured in the attack.

According to the sources, "The injured were immediately airlifted to 92 base hospital in Badami Bagh cantonment area, where Major Pandey and Sepoy Tanzin later succumbed to their injuries."

However, the militants managed to escape after the attack, the sources said.

Earlier the same day, the Indian army had managed to kill two of Hizbul militants in Kulgam district.

Two militants of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) outfit were killed on Thursday by the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district, police said.

Police said the militants were killed in an operation by the security forces in Gopalpora village in Kulgam district. "Two weapons have been recovered from the slain militants," a police officer added.

The officer said, "One of the slain militants was involved in the murder of five policemen and two bank guards in Pombai village in Kulgam district on May 1."
