Army Foils Infiltration Bid In Tangdhar Sector, 5 Terrorists Killed

Five terrorists were shot dead in an early morning encounter in the Tangdhar sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. As per reports, these terrorists were attempting to cross the Line of Control in the Tangdhar sector.

The Tangdhar sector is located in Kupwara district of North Kashmir. These terrorists were spotted in the late hours of Friday and security forces were able to take them out. A search operation is still underway to check if any terrorist is holed up in the area.

The Chief of Army Staff, General Bipin Rawat is presently visiting the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking to media persons on Friday, he said, "We want peace at borders but as you know Pakistan continuously violates ceasefire that causes loss of life & property and in such a case we have to retaliate but if Pak wants peace, we expect them to take initiative, which will start with them stopping infiltration."

The Centre had recently announced a ceasefire of operations in the state during the holy month of Ramadan.

At least four people were killed in a night-long shelling and firing from the Pakistani side of the border at the Jammu International Border Kathua to Akhnoor. More than thirty people were injured.

Civilians were evacuated from multiple areas following ceasefire violation and shelling from Pakistan.
