The attack killed 7 pilgrims and left 18 others injured when militants attacked the bus while it was in the Batengo area of the Anantnag district on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway.

The driver of the bus Saleem has been hailed as a saviour since he continued driving the bus despite shooting on all sides and kept the bus doors locked so that the militants were not able to board the bus.
