In another blow for the Congress party, senior Congress leader Ambika Soni has tendered her resignation from the post of Congress general secretary citing health concerns.

Soni, who was also in charge of 2 states – Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh said, “I have requested leadership to relieve me as in-charge of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh due to health reasons.”

Although Soni will stay a Member of Parliament for Congress in the Rajya Sabha, Sushil Kumar Shinde is set to take over the charge of Uttarakhand.

Ambika’s decision comes as another blow for Congress party as another senior Congress leader Shankersinh Vaghela resigned from the Congress party after saying that the party high command had expelled him.

Ambika Soni is a Member of Parliament in The Rajya Sabha from Punjab. She has also served as I&B Minister (Minister of Information and Broadcasting) in the UPA Government.
