The renowned Jawaharlal Nehru University of Delhi once again landed in controversy after a PhD student of its School of Life Sciences (SLS) went missing on Monday. Previously, a first-year student of JNU Najeeb Ahmed had gone missing after a brawl with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members in October 2016.

The Delhi Police has launched a manhunt in search of Jain, who was last spotted in the SLS lab around 12:30 PM on Monday.

According to reports, Jain left his Ghaziabad residence on early Monday morning and reached the JNU campus. He appeared to be upset after he had a breakup with a fellow student with whom he had an affair.

When Jain left the JNU SLS lab around 12:30 PM he left his mobile phone and wallet in the lab itself. Jain's family approached the JNU authorities when he did not return till late on Monday evening. Typically, Jain would commute from Ghaziabad to the JNU campus in South Delhi on a daily basis.

The police, scanning CCTV footage found out that Jain was last seen exiting the JNU campus from its Gate number 4. However, there was no indication of any fight with any student.

Photographs of Mukul Jain were circulated on social media, in an attempt to help locate the youth, although Najeeb Ahmed is still yet to be found after nearly 2 years.
