After Mittal Quit, Ashwani Lohani Appointed As New Chairman Of The Railway Board

After Railway Board Chairman AK Mittal resigned from his position on Wednesday, Ashwani Lohani, the CMD of Air India took over his position at the government office.

Mr AK Mittal had reportedly submitted his resignation on Tuesday after he was asked to go on a leave by the Railway Ministry following the Utkal Express train derailment. His resignation was accepted by the Ministry, told a spokesperson.

An official statement said the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved Lohani's appointment.

Lohani belongs to the Indian Railways Service of Mechanical Engineers of the 1980 batch. 

So far, Ashwani Lohani has served as the DRM, Delhi Division; Director, National Rail Museum and Chief Administrative Officer.

Notably, Lohani also has his name in the Guinness Book of World Record for successfully running the world’s oldest working steam locomotive ‘Fairy Queen Express’.
