Internet services have been suspended in Sopore, Baramulla, Handwara and Kupwara.

In Handwara, a cordon and search operation was conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir police, Rashtriya Rifles and CRPF. As the security forces moved into the Unisoo village after receiving intelligence of terrorists in the area, they were fired upon, triggering the encounter that led to the death of 3 militants. All the three dead militants are reportedly Pakistani. A civilian woman also lost her life in the encounter.

"In Unisoo, Handwara all the three terrorists apparently Pakistanis have been neutralized by Joint team of J&K Police, RR & CRPF. It has been raining whole night & boys were out there in the cold,” J&K DGP SP Vaid tweeted on Monday.

Meanwhile, 2 terrorists were killed and one captured alive in an encounter in Bomai area of Baramulla, in an encounter that began on Sunday night after militants opened fire on an Army convoy on its way to Srinagar.

According to experts, terrorists in higher altitudes generally try to move into villages after snowfall.
