3 Civilians Shot Dead By LeT Militants In Jammu And Kashmir's Baramulla

A total of 3 civilian youths were shot dead by Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla town on Monday evening.

According to reports, all 3 of the deceased were in their early 20s and were shot from a very close range, killing them instantly.

"Militants this evening shot down three persons in Iqbal Market at old town Baramulla. All the three persons were fired upon from a very close range," said a police statement on Monday, adding that 15 rounds had been fired on the 3 civilians.

The victims have been identified as Asif Ahmad Sheikh, Haseeb Ahmad Khan and Mohmmad Asgar and all 3 were residents of Kakkar Hamam in Baramulla, police said. Initial inquiry found that the youths had no track record of being involved in any political activity or connection with intelligence agencies.

The principal suspects in the case are one Pakistan-based and two other local Lashkar-e-Toiba militants of old Town, Baramulla and are wanted by the law, a police spokesperson said.

Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police S P Vaid termed the attack as "barbaric and inhuman" and said that the accused would be brought to book.

State Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti offered condolences to the families of the deceased.

"Distressed to hear of three civilians being killed by militants in Baramulla. My deepest condolences to the deceased's families," she tweeted.
