As monsoon hits the capital, it has started revealing the lack of public service in the Delhi-NCR region. As the rain started pouring in the national capital region on July 11, the rainwater accumulated on the roads.

With knee deep water covering the roads, an open manhole in Faridabad created trouble for commuters.

Unable to see the open manhole, vehicles fell into the 2-feet wide trap. Within three hours, 11 people had fallen victim to the open manhole, driving their bikes, cycles and even auto rickshaws into the trap.

One commuter, travelling with a woman and infant child drove his front tyre into the manhole. The incident abruptly stopped the vehicle throwing the women who had a child in her hands off-balance.

Despite being jerked off the motorcycle, the woman managed to gain balance immediately after she fell off the vehicle. Others riders, however, were not as lucky. 2 commuters fell off their vehicle and into the knee deep water.

The entire incident was recorded on a nearby CCTV camera. No one was injured in this incident on the Faridabad road.

Although these open manhole incidents can prove very dangerous, they are egregiously common. Every monsoon similar incidents open up reflecting the inefficiency of authorities.
