Rice Plays An Important Part In Ganpati Worship. Here's Why?

As Vinayaka Chaturthi is here, devotees are involved in getting the most awaited guest of the year to their home. The 10-day festival is of great relevance for Ganpati devotees who try their best to celebrate it on a gigantic level.

In all these superfluous preparations, people tend to forget the basic yet necessary elements of Ganesha Pujan. After bringing Ganesha home, he is worshipped for ten days during which rice plays an important role.

Rice is showered upon Ganpati on his arrival along with kumkum or turmeric which signifies the reception of prosperity and happiness. On Ganpati's Isthaan, where he is established in the house could also be covered by few rice grains along with supari and turmeric.

Chef Manjusha Sinha who is an ardent devotee to Ganesha says, "Maharashtrians welcome Ganpatiji by showering kumkum laden rice. Once the idol is installed in the temple, we make the swastika with rice coated with turmeric or kumkum."

Rice grains are believed to attract positivity and energy from the five principal deities namely Lord Shiva, Shakti, Shri Ram, Shri Krishna and Shri Ganesha. Unbroken rice specifically attracts good vibes.

It is believed that plain rice should never be offered to the deity and instead offered after mixing them with Kumkum or turmeric. This year, Ganesh Chaturthi will start on 25th August and end on 5th September 2017.
