Devotees of Gautam Buddha are celebrating his birth anniversary, Buddha Purnima by spreading his teachings and message of peace. Known as the greatest spiritual leader who founded Buddhism - a philosophy leading to spiritual enlightenment of the soul, Lord Buddha had attained Nirvana.

Also Known as Vesak or Buddha Day, Buddha Jayanti marks the birth of Buddha in Lumbini (now Nepal) approximately around 563 BCE. As per Hindu calendar, he was born on a full moon day of the Vaishakha month. The festival is celebrated with great fervour across countries in south and east Asia.

The day is considered auspicious as it is believed to be the day when Buddha attained enlightenment. Born as the prince of Kapilavastu, Siddhartha Gautama didn't witness the sorrows of life until the age of 29 and when he did, he went into deep meditation inside thick woods in the search of truth.
