Two unidentified miscreants on Monday morning fired at Mata Chand Kaur, wife of former Sect head of Namdhari sect, at the the Sri Bhaini Sahib, about 30 kilometers from Ludhiana, Punjab.
The 88-year-old Mata Chand Kaur was rushed to Apollo Hospital where she passed away.
Witnesses said that two unidentified pillion riders fired two shots from a pistol at her outside Satguru Pratap Singh Academy at around 10 am.
Police officials said that a massive search operation was launched in Bhaini Sahib, Machiwara, Samrala, Khanna and adjoining area to locate the miscreants.
It is being rumoured that the firing on Mata Chand Kaur may be because of internal fight between two of her sons Thakur Udhay Singh, her birth son and Thakur Dalip Singh, who was adopted before Udhay's birth, as she had "strongly" supported her son for Gaddi (coveted post) after her husband's death in 2012.
