As the fight continues to bring back the former King of Good Times liquor baron Vijay Mallya from London where he absconded after being charged with money laundering and defaulting on massive bank loans, the government has submitted a report to the London court regarding the condition of the jail where Mallya will be housed upon his extradition from London.

The report, which describes the living and security conditions at the Mumbai Arthur Road jail where Vijay Mallya is to be lodged, is expected to help speed along the process for his extradition from London. Mallya is to be lodged in Barrack 12 of the jail, which was earlier occupied by the 26/11 Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Kasab. Although the jail has an official capacity to lodge 804 prisoners, it currently holds over 2,500 inmates.

"The report was prepared in detail by the jail department and handed over to the government, which in turn, through the CBI, sent it to the Westminster Magistrates' Court which is hearing Mallya's extradition case," said a source.

A joint team of the enforcement directorate (ED) and the CBI had visited London in July to brief the Crown Prosecution Service UK prosecutors that will be arguing the case on the behalf of the Indian government. During the briefing, ED and the CBI submitted fresh proof of Mallya's involvement in carrying out financial fraud.

Mallya has been in the UK since March 2016 despite several summons to return to India.
