G-20 Summit Agenda: Know It All As PM Modi Gears Up For The Meet In Hamburg

The Prime Minister of India is visitingHamburg from July 6-8 in order to attend the twelfth G-20 Summit. The world leader will hold multilateral talks at the Summit along with some bilateral talks on the sidelines.

Here is a preview of what lies ahead in the Summit.

  • The G-20 Summit is taking place with the theme of shaping an Interconnected World

  • In the two-day Summit, the G-20 leaders will discuss terrorism, climate change, global trade, migration, sustainable development and global stability

  • The summit is taking place at a time when there are grave differences among various world leaders. For example, US and China over North Korea, US and Mexico over border wall and India and China over Sikkim Stand-off

  • China had already announced that the Chinese President Xi Jinping won’t be meeting the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of G-20 Summit in Hamburg

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet the leaders of Canada, Japan, Italy, Argentina, Mexico, Republic of Korea and UK on the sidelines of the G-20 Summit

  • Russian President Vladimir Putin, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, France’s newly elected President Emmanuel Macron and the British Prime Minister Theresa May are among the top leaders expected to attend the G-20 Summit

  • The Summit will commence on Friday with the Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel welcoming the world leaders followed by the ‘G20 Leaders’ Retreat’ where the world leaders will hold discussions over fighting terrorism

  • The first working session will be on ‘global growth and trade’, followed by the second session on ‘sustainable development, climate and energy’.

  • The second day of the Summit will be focused on ‘partnership with Africa, migration, health, digitisation, women’s empowerment and employment’.

  • US President Donald Trump is expected to holds talks with the Russian President Vladimir Putin while British Prime Minister Theresa May will also hold talks with US President

  • The G-20 (Group of Twenty) is made up of 19 countries and the European Union. These countries are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States.
