PM Modi, Chinese President Xi Came Face-To-Face At Hamburg, This Is What Happened

Relations between India and China continue to remain strained as the standoff on the Sikkim border prolongs, in the wake of which China had conveyed that their President Xi Jinping would not be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the G20 Summit in Hamburg, Germany.

However, both PM Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping did come face-to-face at Hamburg on Friday. During the BRICS leaders meeting, they complimented each other's nations roles in furthering the objectives of the BRICS group and in fighting against terrorism.

Addressing the BRICS meeting, PM Modi appreciated the momentum in BRICS under the chairmanship of President Xi and extended full cooperation and best wishes for the BRICS Xiamen Summit to be held in China later this year.

After PM Modi's remarks, President Xi appreciated India's strong resolve against terrorism and the momentum in BRICS introduced under India's chairmanship and through the outcomes of the Goa Summit in 2016.

President Xi also appreciated India's success in economic and social development and wished India even bigger success.

PM Modi and President Xi will not be having any bilateral meeting, as Beijing cited that the bilateral "atmosphere" is not good due to the face-off between their armies in Doklam region in the Sikkim sector.

The last meeting between PM Modi and President Xi was in the Kazakhstan capital last month for the SCO summit.
