Modi Arrives To Chants Of Modi, Modi; PM To Address Indian Diaspora In Israel

Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is currently on a 3-day trip to Israel, becoming the first Indian prime minister to visit the Jewish nation, addressed the Indian Diaspora on Wednesday with a gathering of nearly 4,000 attendees.

Welcomed by chants of Modi Modi at the Tel Aviv Convention Centre, the evening began with a series of cultural performances, followed by an introduction by Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and then PM Modi's address.

"These are Jews of India. They love India, they love Israel," said PM Netanyahu.

"I begin with a confession here that we are meeting after a long time, took 70 years to come here," said PM Modi.

"Israel has progressed so much today because of its penchant for innovation. Israel has surprised everyone with its new innovations in almost every field be it solar panels, solar windows, agro-biotechnology," continued PM Modi.

"India and Israel can walk together shoulder to shoulder in the field of technology," he stated.

Currently, there are around 10,000 Indian nationals and 85,000 Jews of Indian origin in Israel.

Praising the contributions of Jewish Indians in the development of Israel, PM Modi also recalled the contributions of Jews in India.

"India will soon open Indian Cultural Center in Israel, that will keep you connected," PM Modi said to the diaspora, adding that direct flight services between New Delhi, Mumbai and Tel Aviv will also be launched soon.

PM Modi highlighted the achievements of India, saying "My Government's mantra is reform, perform and transform."

"Most recently GST was implemented in India, I call GST 'Goods and Simple Tax'. With GST we are aiming towards the economic integration of India," he said.

Describing India as a young nation with 65 percent of its population below the age of 35, PM Modi stated how the focus is made on developing skills of youth.

"We have created a separate ministry only for skill development," PM Modi said.

"Around 600 skill development centres are being set up across the country and an Indian Institute of Skills is being established," he stated.

"We are making consistent efforts to double farmers' income by 2022 and policies are being formulated for this," PM Modi said.

PM Modi announced that Jewish Indians who had undergone compulsory military training in Israel will also be issued Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cards.
