Forbes World's Most Powerful People List 2018: PM Modi Ranked 9, China's Xi Jinping Ranked 1

Renowned business magazine Forbes on Tuesday released its annual list of the World's Most Powerful People for 2018, ranking Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 9th spot, and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the first rank from the total 75 ranks awarded.

The top 10 Most Powerful People in the world according to Forbes are: Chinese President Xi Jinping at rank 1, Russian President Vladimir Putin at rank 2, US President Donald Trump at rank 3, German Chancellor Angela Merkel at rank 4, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos at rank 5, Pope Francis at rank 6, Microsoft founder Bill Gates at rank 7, Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammad Bin Salman Al Saud at rank 8, PM Modi at rank 9 and Alphabet company CEO Larry Page at rank 10.

While PM Modi maintained his 9th rank, Jinping rose 3 spots to displace Putin at rank 1 for the first time in 4 years after the Chinese President in 2017 in a historic move removed term limits for China's Presidents.

Apart from PM Modi, the only other Indian on the list was Reliance Founder and Chairman Mukesh Ambani on rank 32, although Indian American Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft, did secure rank 40.  

According to Forbes, the ranking of The World's Most Powerful People is determined on the basis of 4 parameters. First, the number of people the candidate has power over, second, the financial resources controlled by the candidate, third whether the candidate is powerful in multiple spheres, and lastly, whether the candidate is actively using their power.
