Indian Railways have faced the complaint of bad food quality time and again. Passengers are also not very happy with the food services and have asked for improvement. Paying heed to their requests, the railways have finally decided to change their menu for better.

Reportedly, Indian Railways might copy the menu of airlines for providing better food services to the passenger. The step might be a little costly for the travellers due to the raised food prices but the good quality will be assured.

The Railway committee has submitted a report to the board, based on which the board will take a final decision. The committee has also started to work on the menu and price rationalisation.

The committee has suggested serving ready to eat items in the report. The food items without gravy will be more practical to serve in the train. Vegetarian biryani, rajma chawal, hakka noodles, pulav and laddo might also be added to the list.

As per the recent figures, after the catering was made optional in all Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains, over 20% people have rejected the option due to the quality of food. The Railways recently started a new catering system in Delhi-Firozpur Shatabdi and Bihar Sampark Kranti on trial basis.

Last month, Indian Railways has carried out a trial to collect the feedback from customers online. The response was recorded with the help of over 100 tablets which were given to the onboard supervisors of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) in various railway zones.
