'Judwaa 2' fame Varun Dhawan and the celebrated filmmaker Karan Johar share a sacred bond. Each time the actor tastes success, his mentor boosts with pride as any parent would. Seems like KJo has another project for his protégé.

Helmed by 'Dulhania' series hitmaker Shashank Khaitan, the procedure for the making of Johar's upcoming revenge drama titled Rannbhoomi has commenced. This will be the director's third film with the guru-shishya duo.

Taking the announcement to social media, Karan Johar wrote, "So proud to announce #RANNBHOOMI ...@ShashankKhaitan and @Varun_dvn take a giant leap in their third offering together! A solid spectacle with a beating heart!!! DIWALI 2020 release! Remaining lead cast to be announced soon!"

The trio's past films together were romantic dramas, a genre which they aced and tasted commercial success. However, working on a revenge drama will be first for them and the outcome can go both ways but the producer is least worried about it.

At the peak of his career post working in films like 'Judwaa 2' and 'Badlapur', Varun is ready to unleash his inner warrior with Rannbhoomi. Presenting as a mega cinematic experience with a big cast, the film will have various flavours.

KJo's has been frequently collaborating with his student since launching him in 2012 and has great hopes from their latest joint venture."Rannbhoomi is Shashank’s colossal and ambitious imagination to attempt a hat-trick with Varun and Dharma Productions," he said.

Shashank Khaitan who is currently directly Dharma Productions' Dhadak starring Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter said, "Rannbhoomi is a warrior film, which showcases love, relationships, sacrifices, revenge, and heroism."

He added, "I remember, I began developing it in December 2015 and shared the idea with Varun, who got excited about it. Now, Karan has given us the wings to fly and we are excited to turn this dream into a reality."

With many big names being approached for the film, Rannbhoomi will hit the theatres on 2020 Diwali. Varun Dhawan has recently wrapped shooting for Shoojit Sircar's October and started working for YRF's Sui Dhaaga opposite Anushka Sharma.
